The Soldier of 1916
Here we have a Rifleman of 1916, he has the full 1908 Mills webbing equipment, a MkII Brodie steel helmet
in cover, and PX Gas Hood in its bag. His weapon is the Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield, with 1907 long sword.
A fully equiped member would look like this.

|
The Territorial Soldier 1908 - 1916
This is a cheaper kit option, as the Territorial soldier was equiped with the
1903 Bandolier equipment, most of which is still readily avialable. His rifle is the obsolete Long, Lee-Enfield, with
short sword. As these rifles are now rare and subisquently exspensive, you may use the SMLE.

There are some good choices available.

|
The Standard Uniform
All these kit variations go with the standard Service Dress uniform. This consists of Tunic, Trousers,
Putties, belt, and head dress. There are variations in the belt and head dress that can be worn with Service Dress.
The new recruit is advised not
to purchase anything without reference to the senior members first. Not only will they advise you on the correct
kit, they will also know who is producing to an acceptable high standard and for a good price. Talking before you buy
will save disappointment, and wasted money!

Although we would like our members to have a complete Service Dress within one year of membership, we do not
force new memebers to aquire kit faster than their circumstances will allow. We will always understand if things are proving
difficult.
We hope that our member will get great enjoyment and benifit from The Rifles. Make new
friends, visit new and intersting places, and as confidence and knowledge grows inform and interact with the public.
Aboved all to honour the memory and keep alive the traditions of the RIFLEMAN
